Mrs. Sonia Lewis

Biography
Sonia Lewis has devoted her adult life to working with and on behalf of youth. Throughout her educational career, she always leaned on the values of her mother, who said “you are your best, only when you try your best.” With every endeavor, the pursuit has always been one that embraced the philosophy of lifelong learning. After graduating high school in Sacramento, California, Sonia attended Spelman College of Atlanta, Georgia, where she earned a degree in History. She continued her education at San Francisco State University, where she earned a Teaching Credential. For the past 12 years, Mrs. Lewis has taught middle and high school Social Sciences. Sonia has always made it her business to stand up for and rally behind causes that involve youth. Over the years, Sonia has spoken for various organizations and churches, sat on many discussion panels and a board member of various non-profit organizations. Her work has led to several interviews and recognition by the media. She is honored to work on behalf of youth, because she remembers from where she comes. While on this journey, Sonia discovered there is a flaw in the educational system and we as a nation must work to build our youth and prepare them for life's possibilities. With every experience, Sonia Lewis is determined to share her story and connect with those who need encouragement. She has been recognized by San Francisco Unified as an Outstanding New Teacher and History Alive, as an Outstanding Training Coach. She has worked with the Center for Youth Citizenship, San Jaquin Valley College, Sacramento Police Department, Hands on Sacramento, Ronald McDonald House, Shriner's Hospital, Sacramento Juvenile Courts and many other organizations.
